I Tore Up The NLP Books and Started Again

Are you curious about what really goes on in the NLP4Kids training, and how it differs from standard NLP? You’re not alone. This is one of the most common questions I get asked, especially when people are considering the Silver Level training. So today, let me take you behind the scenes… The Difference Between NLP and NLP4Kids The Silver Level training is where we begin to dive deep into applying NLP strategies specifically for children and young people. If you’ve already done some kind of NLP training before, you’ll know that the techniques can sometimes feel a little… clunky. There are complicated terminologies, long-winded processes, and a step-by-step sequence that’s not always easy to follow—especially not if you’re under 18! That’s where NLP4Kids changes the game. Our children’s franchise doesn’t just use NLP, it transforms it. We didn’t just shrink NLP down for children - we redesigned it from the ground up to meet their unique emotional needs. I started by identifying which processes were genuinely useful for young people. After all, a child’s challenges are often worlds apart from those of an adult. I took apart every step of those original techniques to find what was essential, what could be ditched, and what needed to be added to make them both digestible and emotionally relevant for a younger audience. It was like performing a surgical dissection—looking at each part of a process and saying, “Is this vital? Or is it just fluff?” In some ways, it’s similar to strategy elicitation in NLP: isolating what actually works, not just what we’re used to doing out of habit or tradition. The result? A refined, restructured, child-centred approach to NLP that goes beyond what typical NLP training offers. And the best part is, it’s not just theory. These strategies were tested and refined over years of working directly with children before they ever made it into our training programme. Scientific Proof That It Works Unlike most NLP approaches, which are often supported by anecdotal stories and testimonials, NLP4Kids is different. We’ve got the scientific data to back it up. Ten of our NLP4Kids techniques were included in a university-led research project with BPP University, looking into how NLP-based strategies can help children aged 7-11 reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Using the Revised Children’s Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS), the results showed a scientifically significant improvement in the mental wellbeing of the young participants. That means when you train with us, you’re not just learning powerful techniques - you’re learning techniques that are backed by real-world results. This isn’t just theory - it’s evidence-based practice with proven results for children’s mental health. When you become part of the NLP4Kids children’s franchise, you gain access to a toolkit that’s unlike anything else out there. You’ll learn how to work with young people in a way that resonates with them, engages them, and truly works. And the next opportunity to step into this role is coming soon… The Silver Level training will take place in August 2025. This is your chance to become a licensed practitioner and start making a tangible difference in children’s lives. But remember - there’s a substantial amount of pre-course study to complete, including assessments and 70% of this needs to be done before you attend the live training. So if you’re serious about joining our mission and making a positive impact, now is the time to get started. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee

Preparing Children for the Future: Invest in a Children's Education Franchise

The world is changing rapidly, and the skills needed for success are evolving. Children's education franchises are preparing children for this future by offering programmes that focus on innovation, adaptability, and lifelong learning. One of the key areas of focus is STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). These subjects are not just important for academic success; they are essential for careers in the 21st century. Children's education franchises are making STEM education accessible and engaging, sparking an interest in these fields from a young age. Another area of focus is emotional intelligence. In a world that is increasingly interconnected, the ability to understand and manage emotions is crucial. Children's education franchises are incorporating social and emotional learning into their curricula, helping children develop empathy, resilience, and communication skills. Gemma Bailey’s NLP4Kids programmes are a testament to the importance of preparing children for the future. By addressing both academic and emotional needs, she has helped children build a strong foundation for success. Similarly, children's education franchises are equipping young learners with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. For entrepreneurs, investing in a children's education franchise is a way to contribute to this future. By providing high-quality education, they are not just building a business; they are shaping the next generation. By the Ai version of Gemma Bailey https://nlp4kids.org.uk/childrens-franchise-2

When Mental Health Became ‘Contagious’ - A True Story That Changed Me

When I first began working in the mental health space, I never imagined I’d be using the word “trend” to describe a crisis. But years ago, something happened that stopped me in my tracks—and changed the way I viewed my work forever. It happened in a quiet part of Wales, and what I discovered there was as heartbreaking as it was baffling. When a Cry for Help Becomes Contagious I’d heard whispers of something strange happening among young people in the area. It wasn’t just a mental health issue affecting one or two children—it was a growing phenomenon. In this case, the form it took was self-poisoning. Girls, in particular, were accessing harmful products from under kitchen sinks or in garden sheds, and ingesting them as a cry for help. It was not just the danger of the act that shocked me—but the realisation that these behaviours were spreading from one young person to another. Mental health wasn’t just a private struggle—it was becoming social, shared, and in a way, contagious. 😔 I want to be very clear here: I never use the term “trend” lightly when discussing mental health. The word risks implying something fashionable, something fleeting. And this was neither. But what I witnessed was undeniably spreading—a ripple effect of crisis among vulnerable young people. Later, I discovered that self-harm has long been documented, sometimes in ways we wouldn’t expect. For example, during the early days of textile manufacturing, it was reported that some women would deliberately prick themselves with needles during work. It was one of the earliest recorded examples of self-harming behaviour being studied and discussed. And so I began to realise… these moments in time aren’t isolated. They’re reflections of our culture, our awareness, and the environment we create for our children. This Is Why the Work We Do Matters The more I looked into this issue, the more I began to understand the deeper mechanisms at play. I recently listened to a fascinating podcast called Hysteria, which explored a similar situation in a town in America. Teenagers there began experiencing tics and Tourette-like symptoms, and for a long time, experts thought something in the water or air might be to blame. The Mind Holds the Key 🗝 No one knows for absolute certain, but it appears to be the mind —not the environment—that held the key to the mystery. 🧠 These kinds of cases, as bizarre as they may seem, shine a light on the very real, very complex relationship young people have with their mental health—and how deeply they are influenced by those around them. Whether it’s social media, friendship circles, or shared trauma, we must be aware that children and teens do not suffer in isolation. This is where our work becomes more than a job. It becomes a mission. In a children’s franchise like NLP4Kids, we’re not just responding to needs—we’re proactively creating healthier futures. We are change-makers in a world that needs healing, and our work is both urgent and deeply rewarding. Be Part of Something That Makes a Difference When you become part of the NLP4Kids children’s franchise, you’re joining a network of people who don’t just want to help kids cope—they want to help them thrive. You’ll be trained, supported, and equipped to deliver practical strategies for real change. But more than that, you’ll be part of a movement that helps children feel safe, seen, and strong. You’ll know that you’re contributing to the prevention of emotional crises—and building resilience in the next generation. I often say, “You don’t just remember the work. You remember the difference.” And in this children’s franchise, we live that every day. 👉 If you’re ready to make a difference: https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai)

Staying GDPR Compliant Without Losing Your Mind (or Your Pens)

When you become a licensed NLP4Kids practitioner, your work goes far beyond client sessions and confidence-building strategies. You're not just changing lives—you’re also running a business. And like any business, that comes with a bit of paperwork, a lot of responsibility, and yes... some legal stuff too. It’s not as scary as it sounds, I promise. More Than Just a Coaching Role As part of the NLP4Kids children’s franchise, you’re not just expected to be an amazing practitioner—you’re also expected to be compliant, organised, and professional in the way you manage your client data. We give you every form, framework and policy you’ll need—so you never have to start from scratch. From consent forms to evaluation sheets, it’s all done for you, ready to go. ✅ We’ve created a complete set of documents and processes to make your life easier and ensure you meet both NLP4Kids guidelines and GDPR regulations. This includes clear, plain-English policies on data protection, consent forms for clients, consultation documentation, and even guidance on how long to keep client notes and how to securely store them. And because we know your life is full enough without complicated admin, we provide you with session templates and structures for evaluation, plus booking and payment systems to keep your workflow smooth and stress-free. Paper, Pens… and Going Digital Now, I’ll admit something here: I’ve always had a soft spot for paper. I’m the kind of person who gets slightly too excited in stationery shops. 🖊️📚 In the early days of my practice, I had folders and files stacked so high they were threatening to become a new form of wall insulation. But times change—and so do systems. These days, I run my entire client management system digitally—with better security, more space, and far less paper clutter. It’s more efficient, eco-friendly, and it makes a huge difference to the way I run my children’s franchise. 🌍💡 I now use an app called GoodNotes on my iPad (for Android users, an equivalent would be something like Notally). Clients complete forms directly on the screen using an Apple Pencil. Every child gets their own folder, where I store consultation notes, session worksheets, and workbooks. And with a single click, I can send session resources straight to a parent’s email. It’s seamless, quick, and incredibly professional. That said, if tech isn’t your thing yet—don’t worry. When I started, I didn’t have this gear either (because it didn’t even exist!). I began with good old-fashioned paper and pens, just like many of you will. But as my client list grew, so did the storage needs. Eventually, I had to start scanning files, shredding older ones, and backing everything up on hard drives. So whether you're team notebook or team iPad, you’ll find a way that works for you—and we’ll help you every step of the way. Security Matters (But It Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated) When you do go digital, there are a few simple things to bear in mind to keep your client data safe. You don’t need military-grade encryption—just a locked screen and a strong password will do. 🔐 GoodNotes can be secured using Face ID or passcodes, and your device should also automatically lock when idle. This gives you a double layer of protection—just like keeping paper files in a locked drawer. And of course, your passwords should be known only to you. There’s no need to stress about it. We make sure you know exactly what’s required from a legal perspective, and we’ll walk you through how to do it. That way, you’re never left second-guessing or feeling unsure. Run Your Business Like a Pro Being part of our children’s franchise is about more than being a great coach. It’s about being a confident, capable business owner who takes their responsibilities seriously—and has the tools and support to do it well. Whether you’re just starting out with a notebook and pen, or ready to embrace your inner digital ninja, we’ll help you stay compliant, get organised, and run a professional practice that grows with you. 👉 Ready to learn more? https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai)

Unlocking Hands-On Learning: The Methodology of Children's Education Franchises

Hands-on learning is a cornerstone of children's education franchises. This methodology is based on the idea that children learn best by doing. Whether it’s through experiments, projects, or interactive activities, hands-on learning makes education more engaging and effective. One of the key benefits of this approach is that it caters to different learning styles. Some children are visual learners, while others are kinesthetic or auditory learners. Hands-on activities provide a multi-sensory experience that appeals to all types of learners, ensuring that no child is left behind. Another advantage is that it makes learning more memorable. When children are actively involved in the learning process, they are more likely to retain information and apply it in real-life situations. This practical approach not only enhances understanding but also builds confidence and independence. Gemma Bailey’s NLP4Kids programmes incorporate hands-on learning techniques to help children overcome challenges and achieve their goals for those who want to become self-employed in the UK. Similarly, children's education franchises are using this methodology to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment. For franchisees, hands-on learning is a powerful tool for attracting and retaining students. By offering a unique and effective learning experience, they can differentiate themselves from traditional education providers. The focus on hands-on learning is not just a teaching method; it’s a pathway to success for those wishing to become self employed in the UK. Why People Copy NLP4Kids (and Why It Matters More Than You Think)

There’s a popular saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But when it comes to building a high-impact children’s franchise, imitation can also be the loudest red flag. The Day AI Forgot Who I Was When ChatGPT started gaining momentum, my cousin couldn’t resist having a little fun. He typed in: “Who is Gemma Bailey of NLP4Kids?” and shared the answer with me. According to AI, I’d been interviewed by Oprah. 😳 (If you’re reading this, Oprah – call me.) But it didn’t stop there. When the newer DeepSeek model came out, I got curious. I asked who was well-known in the children’s NLP space. A few names came up – none of them mine. But one did belong to someone I trained. That, my friends, is when your jaw drops and your pride grits its teeth. 📱 “You know you’ve made it when people copy your brand name, your methods – and even your pricing strategy. But that doesn’t mean they’re offering the same quality.” A TikTok Twist – And Another Déjà Vu I was scrolling through TikTok recently, and up popped another familiar face – someone who trained with us years ago. She was talking about NLP with children and families and had cheekily borrowed the numerical “4” in her business name. Clever, really. Familiar branding, similar tone, reduced price tag. I know the playbook – I wrote it. But here’s the thing. You can copy a concept. You can even copy a brand name. What you can’t copy is quality. Because in our world – the world of real children’s franchise work – it’s not just about what you teach. It’s how you teach it. The environment. The tools. The integrity of the delivery. And most importantly – the results. The NLP4Kids Standard – Why Packaging Matters I once heard someone say that people don’t just buy a product – they buy how it makes them feel. And it’s true. Imagine expecting Gucci and getting Primark. That’s the difference between an NLP4Kids session and a poorly put together imitation. We’ve spent years refining not just our materials and techniques, but also how we present them. Everything – from our webinar series to the parents and professionals membership – is created with care, intention, and real-world usability. Even the name NLP4Kids was carefully chosen to represent a playful professionalism that strikes the balance between credible and kid-friendly. When others copy it? Sure, it’s flattering. But it also proves just how much they wish they’d thought of it first. “A children’s franchise isn’t just about tools – it’s about transformation. And transformation doesn’t come from shortcuts.” The Truth About Being Copied – And Why It’s Not a Threat The reality is, anyone can put on a workshop and slap a “4” in the title. But a real children’s franchise delivers consistency, professionalism and impact – session after session. That’s why we continue to grow. That’s why people return to us. And that’s why our reputation, even when AI forgets it for a moment, stands strong. So when you see someone offering what looks like an NLP4Kids-style experience for a fraction of the price – remember this: You’re not just buying a product. You’re investing in a proven legacy, an unwavering standard, and the peace of mind that you’re getting the real deal. Because when it comes to working with children, nothing less will do. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee

What a Dog on the Playground Taught Me About Being Memorable 🐶

Every once in a while, something happens that stays with you forever. It could be heartwarming, hilarious, even a bit rebellious—but it stands out from all the other days because it was different. And those different days? They're the ones that matter most. The Dog on the Playground Effect When I’m running NLP4Kids training sessions, we often take a trip down memory lane—back to school days. And let me tell you, the stories that come out are wild sometimes! 😅 One practitioner confessed to having once been in a gang that set fire to their school. (No names mentioned!) And my own school days were far from innocent. Let’s just say there may have been a snow day that wasn’t exactly officially announced… The thing about these stories is that they stick with us because they’re different. I call it the Dog on the Playground Effect. Out of the thousands of school days you've had, how many do you actually remember? Most days were the same as the last. But the day there was a dog on the playground? EVERYONE remembers that. Your brain loves routine—but it only remembers the days that break it. That’s why working in a children’s franchise like NLP4Kids gives you so many stand-out moments—you’re making real impact, every day. Every Day Can Be a Stand-Out Day Unlike typical jobs where the days blur into one another, running a children’s franchise gives you moments that stay with you forever. I have this mental photo album in my head. It's filled with young people whose lives were changed through the work we did together. I can scroll through it whenever I want—and each memory reminds me that what we do matters. I’ve heard kids say things like, “You saved me,” or “My life is different because of you.” 😢💖 There’s no way you can compare that to a normal 9-to-5. And sure, we all want stability and routine—but we thrive on purpose. We want to know that our work means something. In this business, it really, truly does. This isn’t a job where you’re just clocking in and out. It’s a role where you get to be someone’s turning point—the day their life changed forever. 🌈 A Different Kind of Career If you're the kind of person who wants to make a real difference—but you're also a bit tired of feeling like your current work is... well, a bit grey—then maybe it's time for something with more colour, more heart, and more meaning. That’s what the NLP4Kids children’s franchise offers: the opportunity to build your own business while transforming lives. And not in a small way. In a way that gets remembered. Of course, there’s training and structure to help you get started. We don’t just throw you into the deep end—we guide you through the process and help you build a business that works for you, with mentoring, marketing, and real client support built in. 🧠✨ You’ll be part of a network that values growth, learning, and the power of helping young people reach their full potential. It’s a children’s franchise with heart—and it will fill your life with meaningful moments you’ll never forget. Make Today One of Those Days If you’re feeling that tug—that sense that you’re meant to do more, be more, give more—then this might be your “dog on the playground” moment. The one that stands out from all the others. The one that changes everything. Let’s make it happen together. 👉 https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai)

Fostering Creativity and Critical Thinking: The Edge of Children's Education Franchises

In today’s fast-paced world, creativity and critical thinking are more important than ever. Children's education franchises are at the forefront of fostering these essential skills, giving young learners a competitive edge. These franchises understand that creativity is not just about art or music; it’s about thinking outside the box and approaching problems from different angles. Through activities like brainstorming sessions, group projects, and open-ended questions, children are encouraged to explore new ideas and express themselves freely. Critical thinking, on the other hand, is about analysing information, evaluating options, and making informed decisions. Children's education franchises use real-world scenarios and case studies to teach these skills, making learning relevant and practical whilst providing counselling for teenagers. Gemma Bailey’s NLP4Kids programmes are a prime example of how creativity and critical thinking can be nurtured. By using techniques like role-playing and storytelling, she has helped children develop these skills in a fun and engaging way. Similarly, children's education franchises are creating a generation of innovative and thoughtful individuals. For franchisees, this focus on creativity and critical thinking is a unique selling point. Parents are increasingly looking for programmes that go beyond academics and provide counselling for teenagers. Children's education franchises are meeting this demand. By fostering these skills, they are not just educating children; they are preparing them for life. By the Ai version of Gemma Bailey https://nlp4kids.org.uk/childrens-franchise-2

The Perfect Location to Grow Your Children’s Franchise 🌱

Starting a children’s franchise isn’t just about working with children (although let’s face it—that’s the best bit). It’s also about understanding the lay of the land. And I don’t just mean the schools, or the playgrounds, or even the nearby Costa Coffee (although all of those are important too 😉). Going in Detective Mode 🕵️‍♀️ When someone becomes a new practitioner at NLP4Kids, we don’t just hand them a shiny new website and say, “Off you go!” (Although yes, we do provide you with a fully functional, beautifully designed one-press website 👩‍💻). What we actually do is so much more strategic and thoughtful than that. We go full detective mode 🕵️‍♀️. Even though you’ll likely want to promote your children’s franchise in your local area, you’re not geographically restricted. That’s right—you can work anywhere in the world 🌍. But we still want to make sure that where you start marketing is going to give you the best shot at success. So what do we do? We dig. We investigate. We research. And we look at things you might never have thought of. Local Mental Health Issues We look at population sizes (bigger is often better). We explore house prices (affluence usually brings demand). We even consider local mental health trends—because believe it or not, the kinds of issues that families are facing can vary greatly from one town to the next. Some areas seem to have more cases of anxiety, while others have higher levels of anger or behavioural challenges. And of course, we check the number of primary schools nearby—because schools mean children, and children mean clients. 👧👦 Finding Your Goldmine 💵 If it turns out that your hometown isn’t quite the goldmine we hoped for, we look at nearby locations that might serve you better. Remember, your website might have a home base, but you don’t have to stay put. For instance, I’m based in Hemel Hempstead. It’s got a good population size, but it’s not the most affluent area around. So guess what? My clients tend to come from places like North London, St Albans, and Harpenden—areas with a bit more disposable income and a big need for child-focused mental health services. When someone’s starting a new children’s franchise, the idea of analysing all this data can feel like the last thing you want to be doing. You just want to get going and do the work that makes a difference. That’s why, when you join NLP4Kids, we do all of this legwork for you. I personally conduct the initial market research to help identify where you should be focusing your first marketing efforts. And here's the best bit… once that’s done, we set a clear goal: to secure five client consultations for you within the first three months. 🎯 If we don’t? We’ll give you a full refund on your training fees—plus an extra three months of support at no extra cost. That’s how confident we are in the system we’ve built. Why Do We Do This? This process isn’t just about getting clients early on—it helps us work out which locations to list on your website, which Facebook community groups you should be joining, and what local advertising options might give you the best return on investment. So whether you want to scale up and take on more clients, or keep your work-life balance firmly in check, you’ll always feel in control. You can turn the tap up… or gently dial it back down. 🚰 And all the while, you’ll know that you’ve got a team behind you who’s done their homework—and who’s invested in making your children’s franchise a long-term success. Are We Raising Resilient Children? Let’s Talk About What’s Really Going On

There’s a theory I’ve been mulling over recently, and I wanted to share it with you. It’s about the rising levels of anxiety in young people. 🧠 Now, a lot of people like to pin this problem on the COVID-19 pandemic. And sure, it didn’t help—but I don’t think it was the root cause. Anxiety in children was already an issue long before lockdowns came along. So what is the cause? That’s what I’m interested in exploring—and I’d love to hear your thoughts too. When I was growing up, mental health wasn’t something that got much attention. If you had ADHD, you were labelled as naughty. If you were autistic, you were seen as weird. There wasn’t much nuance or support—just labels. But that said, I don’t remember as many mainstream kids struggling as intensely as they seem to now. The scale and complexity of what today’s children are dealing with feels different. I heard a story recently on a podcast that really made me think. A parent (I think it was a mum, but I’ll need to find the exact episode) allowed her son to go into town by himself. He had clear instructions, he knew the route, he had a set time to return, and he was well-prepared. She shared this on social media—and the backlash was enormous. People were calling her irresponsible. Some even accused her of not caring about her child’s safety. All because she gave him a bit of independence. This mum ended up researching the feedback she received, trying to understand whether her instincts were wrong or whether society had just changed. It got me reflecting on my own childhood. By the time I was seven, I was walking myself to school—about a 20-minute walk each way. I had my own front door key, and I’d play out with friends until it got dark. As I got older, I’d take myself into town, jump on the bus, and go shopping with mates. We were self-sufficient. Nowadays, a lot of that freedom has disappeared. Yes, we’re more safety-conscious—but have we gone too far? Are we raising children who are overprotected and underprepared? Combine that with instant gratification (everything’s a tap away on a phone), the constant comparisons on social media, and the pressure to look perfect… and it’s no wonder anxiety levels are up. When I look at the work we do through NLP4Kids, I see that we’re not just offering tools for managing emotions—we’re offering a lifeline for children to build resilience, confidence, and independence. And that’s exactly why our children’s franchise exists. We’re giving professionals the skills and structure to help young people develop coping mechanisms, emotional literacy, and problem-solving abilities—skills that are more necessary than ever in today’s world. The practitioners in our children’s franchise often tell us that they’re not just making a difference in children’s lives—they’re also helping families shift their perspectives. Encouraging parents to let go just enough to give their kids the freedom to grow. And that’s why we’re so proud of the model we’ve built. This isn’t just a business—it’s a movement. A mission to empower the next generation through mental and emotional development. If you’ve ever thought about joining a children’s franchise that creates meaningful change, I’d love to hear from you. And if you’ve got thoughts on this shift in parenting and anxiety, drop me a message. I’d genuinely love to hear your view. 😊 By Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee

Revolutionising Early Childhood Education: The Franchise Model

Early childhood education is a critical stage in a child’s development, and children's education franchises are revolutionising this space. By offering a franchise model that combines innovation with accessibility, these franchises are making high-quality education available to more families. The franchise model is particularly effective in early childhood education because it ensures consistency and quality. Franchisees receive comprehensive training and support, enabling them to deliver a standardised curriculum that meets the needs of young learners. This consistency is crucial in building trust with parents and creating a positive reputation. One of the key innovations in this space is the focus on holistic development. Children's education franchises recognise that early childhood is not just about academic learning; it’s also about social, emotional, and physical growth. Programmes are designed to nurture all aspects of a child’s development, laying a strong foundation for future success. Gemma Bailey’s work with NLP4Kids highlights the importance of early intervention. By addressing challenges at a young age, she has helped children build confidence and resilience. Similarly, children's education franchises are making a lasting impact by providing a supportive and stimulating environment for young learners. For entrepreneurs, the franchise model offers a proven path to success. With a growing demand for quality early childhood education, investing in a children's education franchise is a smart and rewarding choice. Lessons from the Past That Shaped the NLP4Kids of Today

Today I want to share with you the story behind NLP4Kids—how it started, how it’s evolved, and how it became a successful and sustainable children’s franchise for professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of young people. It all began back in 2004 when I was taking my NLP Trainers Training. During the course, my friend Kay gave me a piece of advice that would completely shape my future. She suggested that instead of just doing what everyone else was doing—offering the same NLP courses to the same adult audience—I should consider finding a niche. At the time, I was still working as a nanny, having previously been a nursery nurse and part of the NHS health visiting team. Her suggestion to use NLP with children made perfect sense, and so that’s exactly what I did. We began delivering workshops for children, teaching them NLP skills in fun and practical ways. I also integrated NLP into my one-to-one therapy sessions with young clients, and while I worried that specialising in children might put adults off, it actually had the opposite effect. People saw the specialism as a sign of professionalism and credibility. Eventually, I started getting asked how I was adapting the techniques for younger minds. That’s when I began building what we now call the NLP4Kids Silver Level Training—a programme designed specifically for working with children and young people. Even from those early days, I knew I wanted this to be more than just a course. I wanted to build a children’s franchise—something with structure, standards, and ongoing support. Too often, people were attending NLP trainings who either shouldn’t be there, or who had no intention of putting the skills to use long-term. I wanted to work with people who were serious about creating a business and who were ready to be held accountable. In the beginning, I didn’t know much about franchising, and I attracted a lot of people from the self-development world. They had passion, but often lacked the business mindset to succeed. I gave them websites, mentoring, marketing resources—you name it—but many didn’t follow through. Then along came Mark, a business mentor who had experience in the franchise world. He scouted me out and we met to talk through the problems I was facing. At that point, I was running a model that offered lifetime support in exchange for a one-off training fee. Unsurprisingly, that wasn’t sustainable. Practitioners weren’t paying me anymore, but they were still calling for support, asking for marketing, and expecting website hosting—all while contributing nothing financially. Mark encouraged me to return to the original idea: a monthly fee, ongoing accountability, and the tools needed for business success. Most importantly, he told me to stop marketing only to the NLP community and start advertising in children’s franchise directories. The impact was immediate. We began attracting a new wave of practitioners—people who genuinely wanted to build a business helping children and were willing to take the necessary steps to do so. These days, we track practitioner performance closely. We know how many hours they’re working, how much income they’re generating, and if things start to dip, they get booked in for a mentoring call with me to discuss what’s going on. That’s part of why our franchise works—because we care about results, not just feel-good moments. And I’m pleased to say, the model is working. We rarely lose practitioners. Those who leave tend to do so at the end of their licence, usually because they’re retiring or moving into a new therapeutic path. The vast majority renew, and there’s no resistance to paying the monthly fee—because they know what they’re getting in return. So, if you’ve ever thought about being part of a children’s franchise that offers real support, measurable outcomes, and a chance to make a lasting impact… this might just be the sign you were waiting for. 😊 By Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://nlp4kids.org/becoming-a-licensee
